The dictionary describes the word “artful” as showing creative skill or taste and “gathering” as an assembly or meeting, especially a social or festive one held for a specific purpose. With that being said I am so honored to be part of the Artful Gathering 7 th Annual Online Art Retreat for 2017!
Over the course of the last few years I have made many free “how to” metal emboss Youtube videos and my talented and patient resident videographer of Pictures Up has always successfully made the tutorials look pretty and professional.
Online feedback has mostly been positive and encouraging but when some of the comments were a little rough on my wobbly ego, I poured myself a glass of wine (ok, let’s be honest, maybe more than one..) and with some dutch courage, aimed to do better next time….
I am always amazed at how far the online presence reaches and how new technology allows us to teach, learn and connect with each other wherever we may find ourselves in the world…and this from a woman still in awe of a fax machine!
Artful Gathering Online Courses will now make it possible for you to take a comprehensive Metal Embossing workshop from the comfort of your own home, in your pj’s and at any time of the day or night!
While a physical art retreat workshop may last a day or two, an Artful Gathering workshop allows for SIX whole weeks with your workshop materials and your instructor. During these six weeks you can go at your own pace, interact with your retreat mates, and you can ask your instructor questions inside the classroom. All video content and materials are accessible on the first day of class, 24/7. The classes conclude after six weeks, and the event closes on August 26. Videos are not downloadable. After the course a DVD of the workshop will be available for purchase.
In this workshop students will learn the three key mark making techniques in metal embossing: engraving, low relief and high relief embossing while completing a sampler bookmark. We will apply these techniques in a grid design (provided) for the journal cover or wall plaque project while also learning the A to Z of metal embossing. You will learn how to cut and size your metal sheet, what can be used as a substitute for tools, different metals, various methods of filling, patina options as well as various adhesion options. I will also teach you how use stencils, texture plates, embossing folders and embellishments for adding design to your metal art as well as how to add images or photos to the metals. No prerequisite experience required.
Session one and session two online workshops will open for registration on May 1, 2017 and Metal Embossing: Contemporary Techniques of an Ancient Craft will take place in Session Two: July 16 – August 26.
